WORLD IN BRIEF : HONG KONG : Viet Refugees to Be Forcibly Sent Home

British officials in Hong Kong said that plans to forcibly send Vietnamese “boat people†home will go ahead despite Hanoi’s objection. Hong Kong plans to start moving out illegal Vietnamese immigrants by mid-December to clear some of the 57,000 people jamming its camps. Vietnam rejects forced repatriation but says it will work toward a settlement on voluntary return. The United States says a voluntary repatriation program should be given more chance to work.
