Monterey Park : City Keeps Law Firm
After a closed session, the City Council announced its decision to keep the law firm of Brown, Winfield & Canzoneri as city attorneys until the city’s budget for the next fiscal year is presented.
The closed meeting Monday night came after Councilman Barry L. Hatch suggested soliciting bids from other firms for legal services.
But Mayor Pat Reichenberger said she was pleased with the track record of BW & C. She said the council decided to keep the firm because “they are well within the average range.â€
BW & C has been working for the city since 1984 and has won 14 of 15 suits in which it represented the city, said Stephanie Scher, a partner with the firm.
Since August, the city has paid the firm $7,500 a month for routine legal work, with special projects billed extra.
