Commodities Probe Widens to S&P; 500 Pit: Federal authorities probing trading abuses at the city’s commodity exchange reportedly have expanded the investigation to include stock index futures trading at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Six traders from the Merc’s Standard & Poor’s 500 index futures pit received subpoenas earlier this week to testify before a federal grand jury regarding trades they made during the 1987 stock-market crash, according to a story in the Wall Street Journal.
