Congress Votes Itself a Hefty Pay Raise
While I’m away, a person burgles my home. While my back is turned, and before I can even see what he is doing, my congressman awards himself a raise in pay (Part A, Nov. 17-18). Is there any difference between these two people? There is not. They are both thieves in the night.
Our society, as wonderful as it can be, is often riddled with scandal and corruption and too often woven into the fabric of this corruption are the names of our esteemed congressmen and senators. Now, amid budget cuts, a huge deficit and extraordinary measures to bail out failing industries, these people pat themselves on the back for a job well-done and promise to stop taking bribes if we give them a hefty pay raise. Huh?
We will not forget this, Congress people. We will not forget this slap in our collective face.
