Congress Votes Itself a Hefty Pay Raise

The Times was full of good news for the labor force (Nov. 18). While the newly enacted minimum wage will produce only $7,904 annually based on a 40-hour week beginning in April, 1990, only one year later it will leap to $9,140 per year. Meanwhile, those who labor in the halls of Congress will have to struggle by on $98,200 (senators) and $125,000 (representatives).

Some of this unbridled joy could trickle down to me if I could get the kind of service and attention from my elected representatives that I get from the employees who earn the minimum wage in the local fast-food outlets which I patronize.
