First American Financial Corp.: The Santa Ana title insurance company reported a 27% decline in net income for the third quarter, to $5.3 million from the $7.3 million recorded a year ago. Revenue rose slightly, to $177 million from $175.2 million. Net income for the nine months dropped 32%, to $6 million from $8.8 million for the comparable 1988 period. Revenue increased 12%, to a record $512.5 million from $459 million.
