In Big West water polo:

UC Irvine 12, Fresno State 6--Second-ranked UC Irvine (22-6, 6-2) scored six goals in the second quarter to roll to victory at Heritage Park.

Seniors Tom Warde and Julian Harvey led second-ranked Irvine with four goals each. Irvine improved to 22-6 overall and 6-2 in the Big West. Fresno State dropped to 9-20 and 0-9.

In Big West women’s volleyball:

Cal State Long Beach State 3, Cal State Fullerton 0--Cal State Long Beach (21-4, 12-4) was led by Tara Cross’ 22 kills and swept Cal State Fullerton (7-19, 1-14), 15-8, 15-4, 15-11. Susan Herman had 14 kills for Fullerton.

San Diego State 3, UC Irvine 1--Kim Collins had 11 kills and 12 digs for host UC Irvine (17-13, 5-11), but San Diego State swept, 12-15, 16-14, 15-5.

In women’s cross-country, Buffy Rabbitt won the individual championship, running the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes 53.7 seconds, to help UC Irvine women finish second to Washington in the Region 8 championships at Fresno’s Woodward Park and qualify for the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. team championships.

Irvine, No. 7 in the nation, scored 83 points. Washington won with 75 points.

Rabbitt had a time of 16 minutes 53.7 seconds on the 5,000-meter course. Teammate Brigid Stirling finished ninth in 17:32.6.
