Computer Problem Causes Flight Delays
WASHINGTON — A second computer problem within a week at the Washington Air Route Traffic Control Center caused some flight delays Tuesday, the Federal Aviation Administration reported.
“There was never a safety issue,†FAA spokeswoman Diane Spitaliere said. “The worst-case scenario was massive delays, and that never happened.â€
Officials said a problem with telephone lines caused a computer at Leesburg, Va., to lose contact with some remote radar facilities, meaning that information about some flights had to be put into the system manually.
