Mitchell, Sierra Named Players of the Year by Sporting News
ST. LOUIS — Kevin Mitchell of San Francisco and Ruben Sierra of Texas have been selected Players of the Year in their respective leagues by The Sporting News magazine.
The St. Louis-based magazine also picked San Diego’s Mark Davis as both the National League Pitcher of the Year and Fireman of the Year.
In the American League, Pitcher of the Year went to Kansas City’s Bret Saberhagen and Fireman of the Year went to Jeff Russell of the Texas Rangers.
Rookies of the Year were Jerome Walton of Chicago in the National League and Craig Worthington of Baltimore in the American League.
National League Comeback Player of the Year was Lonnie Smith of Atlanta and Bert Blyleven of California was selected in the American League.
