Fullerton Edges Golden West; Andrews Sets Career Rushing Mark

FULLERTON — Defensive back Orlando Robbins’ second interception of the game, in the end zone with 31 seconds left to play Saturday, clinched Fullerton’s 20-14 Mission Conference victory over Golden West College.
Tailback Jeff Andrews rushed for 54 yards in 16 carries to set a Fullerton career rushing record of 2,072 yards. He broke Andrew Greer’s 1986-87 mark of 2,036 career rushing yards and has four games left to extend the record.
Golden West (3-3, 3-2) had a chance to win the game in the final minute when quarterback David Brunet passed to running back Sean Cheatham for a 59-yard play that took the ball to the Hornets’ six. But two plays later, Robbins intercepted Brunet’s pass intended for Tom Wind in the end zone.
Fullerton (4-2, 3-2) scored on the second play of the game when quarterback David Chisum hit flanker Nick-John Haiduc with a 75-yard touchdown pass.
Golden West scored with 10:35 left in the first quarter with tailback Corey Dickson’s 71-yard scoring run up the middle.
