GARDEN GROVE : Peep Show Operators Targeted in Lawsuits

The city began a crackdown Monday on several peep show arcades and adult bookstores along Garden Grove Boulevard, seeking court orders to halt activities it said are a public nuisance.

In three Superior Court lawsuits, Garden Grove targets Garden of Eden, in the 12000 block of Garden Grove Boulevard, Bijou Film Classics in the 8700 block and A-Z Books in the 8100 block.

The lawsuits, filed by the city attorney’s office, contend that the businesses create a public nuisance by being conducive to illegal sexual activity in the surrounding area.

They also said that the businesses are operating peep shows without permits and that they have many health and safety code violations, including unsanitary restrooms, enclosed or locked peep show areas, too few exit signs, improper use of electrical extension cords and walls that are not properly fire-resistant.

The city attorney seeks court orders forcing the businesses to correct the problems.
