Duckworth Helps Portland Defeat Clippers for Second Straight Night
COOS BAY, Ore. — Kevin Duckworth scored 19 points and had seven rebounds Sunday night to lead the Portland Trail Blazers past the Clippers, 105-93.
The exhibition win was Portland’s second over the Clippers in two days. Portland is 2-0 in exhibition play. The Clippers are 1-2.
Portland broke the game open with a 22-9 run in the final 8:48 of the third quarter. Jerome Kersey, who assisted Duckworth on a layup to start the run, scored eight straight points to help the Trail Blazers pull away.
Rookie Cliff Robinson scored 16 points for Portland, including 12 in the fourth quarter. Top draft pick Byron Irvin added 10 rebounds.
Portland held a 52-46 lead at halftime, helped in part by a 10-0 run midway through the second quarter.
The Clippers shot only 39% from the floor before 1,400 fans at the Marshfield High School gym. Portland shot 47%.
Charles Smith had 17 points and seven rebounds to lead the Clippers.
