The Pittsburgh Symphony has presented “America’s Gift of Music to Polandâ€--an award that will include donations of scores, orchestral parts, records, books, strings, reeds and other musical items--to the country’s Chopin Academy of Music. “The ‘gift of music’ project was born in response to what we heard as a cry for temporary assistance in providing musical and cultural resources to the thousands of talented musicians and music students who live in your great country,†said Maestro Lorin Maazel, music director of the Pittsburgh Symphony orchestra, as he presented the award to Chopin Academy Pro-Rector Andre Horoshinski and coordinator of International Programs Maria Neugebauer. The ceremony was held during the second of two Warsaw concerts by the Pittsburgh Symphony during their monthlong tour of Europe.
