A look at upcoming events in LOS ANGELES COUNTY
CHURCH CENTENNIAL: Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church marks its centennial today with a special Mass at the Ft. MacArthur parade ground. Mass, preceded by other festivities, will be celebrated at noon by Archbishop Roger Mahony.
PESKY MEDFLIES: Government officials are to release sterile Medflies around Whittier and Baldwin Park in an effort to combat an infestation of the crop-damaging pest.
ZSA ZSA, THE SENTENCE: Zsa Zsa Gabor is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday in Beverly Hills Municipal Court for her traffic stop convictions including assault on a police officer. Courthouse speculation is that the outspoken beauty queen will receive a fine--the maximum possible is about $3,000--and perhaps be required to engage in community service work.
V.P. VISIT--Vice President Dan Quayle will be in Los Angeles Tuesday, delivering a speech to a Town Hall luncheon in Century City.
BLOOD TEST: In a bid to save the life of a schoolteacher’s daughter, blood testing will be conducted Wednesday at Rowland High School, where Paul Nuccio teaches social studies. Authorities are looking for someone whose tissue matches that of Nuccio’s 8-year-old daughter Danielle. She has leukemia. Doctors say a marrow transplant from a stranger may be her only chance to live.
