The nine-month search for a dean of UC San Diego’s new school of architecture has ended, and the new dean will be named within eight weeks, Chancellor Richard C. Atkinson said Wednesday.
The university has settled on three finalists, Atkinson said during his annual State of the University address at the La Jolla campus. Though Atkinson declined to name the candidates, he said he is hopeful that the appointment will be made soon, since Atkinson will be taking a 10-week sabbatical in June.
“In this institution, the focus is on excellence,” said Atkinson, adding that the new dean, who won’t be “bound in traditions,” will be free to build an innovative institution, capable of finding new solutions to living.
The school of architecture, the third professional school at UCSD, will enroll students in the fall of 1991.
