Long Beach : Acting Provost Named to Replace Vice President
Karl Anatol, dean of the School of Humanities at Cal State Long Beach, has been named the university’s acting provost and vice president for academic affairs. Anatol, a native of Trinidad and a specialist in organizational communication, will replace John Beljan who resigned Sept. 25 to become the interim president of Northrop University. Beljan had initially planned to stay on as provost until June, but was forced to resign after CSU officials cited rules prohibiting him from holding such a high-level post while leading another school.
In announcing Anatol’s selection, Cal State Long Beach President Curtis L. McCray said that his name had been “clearly and widely recommended†for the post by various members of the campus community.
A permanent successor for Beljan is expected to be named by July 1, 1990.
