An inmate from the state prison on Otay Mesa who walked away from a Caltrans work detail Tuesday in Chula Vista was apprehended by Chula Vista police later that evening, a prison spokesman said.
Gregory Olson, 28, who reportedly climbed an embankment leading up from the southbound lanes of Interstate 805 near the Orange Avenue exit, was arrested at 6:30 p.m. at Interstate 5 and Palomar Avenue after approaching an undercover officer for a ride.
Olson was in custody for receiving stolen property, the spokesman said.
