College Roundup : Wagner’s Goal Helps Chapman Post 3-1 Victory in Men’s Soccer
Jamie Wagner scored to give Chapman College’s men’s soccer team the lead en route to a 3-1 nonconference victory over Metropolitan State in Denver Friday.
Wagner scored early in the second half after Scott Montroy stole the ball and passed to him. Chapman’s Roger Skinner scored at the 80-minute mark on a 45-yard header when the Denver goalie slipped.
In nonconference volleyball:
Chapman 3 UC San Diego 1--Debi Waller had 17 kills to lead Chapman to a 15-10, 15-4, 11-15, 15-8, victory at UC San Diego. Also for Chapman (13-2), Karen Burley had 12 kills and Rena Strange had eight kills and 11 solo blocks.
In Golden State Athletic Conference volleyball:
Fresno Pacific 3, Southern California College 1--Visiting Fresno Pacific won, 12-15, 15-7, 15-8, 15-7, to drop Southern California College’s record to 6-8 overall and 0-3 in conference. Krista Hoover had six kills and Heather Frewin had five kills and two blocks for SCC.
In golf:
UC Irvine’s golf team is tied for 17th in a 19-team field after the first round in Las Cruces, N.M. Texas Christian and UNLV are tied for first with an 18-hole score of 290. Irvine is tied with Colorado State at 307.
Warren Schutte of UNLV and Ben Furth of California are first among the individual scorers with four-under-par 68s. Irvine’s Mark Wilson is tied for 35th at 75.
