Burroughs to Battle Quartz Hill
A defensive battle seems imminent when Burroughs and Quartz Hill square off in a nonleague high school football game tonight at 7:30 at Burroughs.
Both defenses were stingy in victory last week. Burroughs yielded just 17 yards rushing and 101 yards total in a 23-8 win over St. Francis.
Quartz Hill, a seemingly much-improved member of the Golden League, allowed just 65 yards rushing and 65 yards passing while posting a 17-0 shutout over South Bakersfield.
North Hollywood, which finished 4-6 overall and second in the East Valley League, will open against St. Genevieve at Birmingham High tonight at 7.
St. Genevieve (1-0), a 9-7 winner over Daniel Murphy last week, is piloted by Dominic Mueller, who completed nine of 12 passes for 60 yards. The Valiants’ defense held Murphy to 55 yards passing and 100 yards rushing.
Also scheduled tonight at 7:30 are Oak Park against Leffingwell Christian at Excelsior High in Norwalk, Cathedral against Village Christian at Kennedy High and Carpinteria against Calabasas at Agoura High.
