Chiron Corp.: The Emeryville, Calif.-based biotechnology company reported a first-quarter net loss of $3.9 million, compared to a net loss of $2.4 million a year ago. Revenue totaled $7.6 million, up 7%. The results reflected a decrease in revenue from collaborative research agreements, an 27% rise in research and development expenses and a $581,000 charge to research and development due to the firm’s decision to postpone construction of manufacturing facilities.
