A. C. Martin Wins Shuwa Job: Shuwa Investments Corp. selected A. C. Martin & Associates as the master planner for its proposed development for a 7-acre downtown property located between Eighth, Ninth, Hope and Flower streets. A. C. Martin, one of the largest Los Angeles architectural and engineering firms, was in competition with Johnson, Fain & Pereira and Gensler & Associates. Although the submitted design concepts were for a mixed-use development, Shuwa President Takaji Kobayashi said that specific uses for the site have not yet been determined and the company will begin negotiations with the Community Redevelopment Agency to plan the development.
