Mockett Gains U.S. Amateur Semifinals

Cathy Mockett of Newport Beach won twice Thursday and advanced to the semifinal round of the U.S. Women’s Amateur golf championships on the No. 2 course at Pinehurst County Club in North Carolina.
Mockett defeated Sarah LeBrun of Owings Mills, Md., 4 and 3, in the morning match. She then ousted Kiernan Prechtl, of Ormond Beach, Fla., in 19 holes.
Mockett plays Californian Brandie Burton of Rialto in the semifinal.
