Dana Kirk, former Memphis State basketball coach, checked out of a federal prison in Alabama after serving four months of a one-year sentence for tax evasion and obstruction of justice.
Kirk, 53, is scheduled for parole Oct. 2 but has been assigned to an early release program that will let him await that date at home.
Kirk, who built a nationally ranked basketball program at Memphis State, was convicted late last year of understating his income to the Internal Revenue Service and trying to intimidate a grand jury witness.
