For Better Living Inc. reported that net income for the three months ended July 1 declined 63%, to $315,000 from $853,000 for the comparable 1988 period. Sales for the second quarter rose 4%, to $22.6 million from $21.8 million. Net income for the first six months dropped 74%, to $248,000 from $942,000 for the like period last year. Sales increased 5%, to $42 million from $39.8 million. The company said the earnings decline was primarily from increased administrative expenses from adding personnel. For Better Living, based in San Juan Capistrano, has interests in concrete, plastics and magazine publishing.
