Mine Director Held After Blast Kills 23

BEIJING — The head of a coal mine in central China’s Shanxi province was arrested after a gas explosion killed 23 miners, the China Daily said Wednesday.
It said the explosion occurred June 24, killing the miners and causing $113,500 in damage. The mine chief and a technician, who was also arrested, have been charged with dereliction of duty, promoting production at the expense of safety, it said.
