Unbeaten Chavez to Fight in Irvine

Ernie Chavez, an unbeaten welterweight from Westminster, will fight Daryl Colquitt of Los Angeles in the main event tonight at the Irvine Marriott.

Chavez (5-0 as a professional) will be making his 10-round debut tonight. Colquitt is 9-9-2.

As an amateur, Chavez was the state champion several times and also competed in the 1986 Goodwill Games in Moscow.

The card is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

John Armijo, a former lifeguard from Huntington Beach, fights Robert Jackson in a six-round middleweight bout.

In other bouts, all four rounds, Angel Rivas of Bell will face Carlos Gonzales of San Diego (145 pounds); Larry Dupree of Long Beach will face Charos Tembo of Pico Rivera (175 pounds); Joaquin Rodriguez of Pasadena will face Martin Garcia of Westminster (118 pounds); and Javier Torres of Bell will face Sergio Medina of Pomona (126 pounds).
