Arcadia Schools Chief Off to Chino
After four years as superintendent of Arcadia Unified School District, Stephen A. Goldstone will leave Sept. 15 to head the Chino Unified School District, an Arcadia district spokeswoman said.
In Chino, Goldstone will oversee a district with 23,000 students, three times the enrollment of the Arcadia district.
Goldstone, 50, accepted the Chino offer with mixed emotions, according to an announcement released by district officials. Goldstone could not be reached for comment.
District officials, who were officially notified of Goldstone’s resignation last Monday, praised his skills as an administrator.
“He has provided four years of outstanding leadership to the Arcadia School district, and we are appreciative of it,†said school board President Mary Dougherty. “We are very sorry to see him leave.â€
The board has scheduled a special meeting on Monday to discuss the search for Goldstone’s replacement, Dougherty said.
Goldstone became superintendent of the Arcadia school district in 1985 after serving five years as head of the Albany School District in northern California. Before that, he was a junior high school principal and area superintendent in the Pomona Unified School District.
