THE SIDELINES : U.S. Wightman Cup Team Named

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Thirteen-year-old Jennifer Capriati and Mary Joe Fernandez will make their Wightman Cup debuts for the United States against Britain in September, the U.S. Tennis Assn. announced today.
They will join Patty Fendick, Lori McNeil and Betsy Nagelsen in forming the U.S. team for the 61st Wightman Cup match, which will take place Sept. 14-16 in Williamsburg.
Capriati won the association’s girls’ hard court and clay court national titles last year.
Fernandez, 18, is ranked 14th in the world, and this year reached the semifinals of the French Open.
Fendick made her Wightman Cup debut last year, McNeil has appeared twice and Nagelsen has played doubles three times.
