Fountain Valley : Police Apprehend 2 Burglary Suspects
Two people were arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary of a single-family home in Fountain Valley, authorities said Thursday.
Van Huu Nguyen, 20, and a 17-year-old juvenile, both of Santa Ana, were arrested Wednesday after the owner of the home returned to find a vehicle belonging to one of the two suspects parked in his garage, a police spokeswoman said.
The owner of the home in the 9700 block of La Arena Circle called police, who entered the house and surprised the suspects. The two suspects ran out the back and onto the grounds of Fountain Valley High School. A brief foot chase ensued before the two suspects were caught on the campus, the spokeswoman said.
Police found that stereo equipment and jewelry had been moved from the house into the garage by the time the homeowner arrived about noon.
Nguyen was still in custody Thursday night. His bail was set at $25,000. The teen-ager, whose name was withheld because of his age, was initially held on suspicion of burglary and released to his parents on Wednesday, officials said.
