Court Decisions

Recently, the U.S. Supreme Court rendered several decisions that set back 20 years of civil rights efforts and the public outcry was minuscule. Then the Supreme Court rendered its decision on the legality of flag burning and the public response has been tremendous. Does anyone see the irony of this?

When the principles that the flag is supposed to symbolize are tampered with, i.e. fairness, equality, and justice, etc., not many Americans really care. When the inanimate cloth symbol of these beliefs is affected the so-called patriots rise in unison to voice their consternation. I suppose to their way of thinking the symbol is more important than the actual principles it symbolizes.
