A 35-year-old man from Amarillo, Tex., was killed when the male companion of his estranged wife shot him, National City police reported Tuesday.
Martin Mendoza Vega reportedly forced his way into his wife’s apartment at Palm View Court in Monday night and confronted her and her companion with a gun, Officer Keith Cochenour said. Mendoza shot at the other man, who also had a gun. The man shot back, hitting Mendoza in the chest.
Mendoza was declared dead at the scene, Cochenour said.
Police declined to release the names of the wife, from whom Mendoza has been separated for 10 months, or her companion. No arrests have been made.
