GAZA CITY, Israel-Occupied Gaza Strip — Israeli occupation authorities fired a leading Palestinian surgeon, Dr. Ahmed Yazji, from the Gaza Strip’s main government hospital Monday, accusing him of hostile political activity.
Yazji, 42, who has treated hundreds of casualties at Gaza’s Shifa Hospital during the 18-month-old Palestinian uprising, said he was summoned by the Israeli chief medical officer and told he was being dismissed.
The Israeli official accused him of being a leading activist of Yasser Arafat’s Fatah group in the Gaza Strip and contacting the outlawed Palestine Liberation Organization in Amman, Jordan, Yazji said.
Israeli security sources confirmed that he was dismissed on political grounds.
