Valley Federal Stock Soars: The stock of Valley Federal Savings & Loan in Van Nuys surged 16% on heavy volume, but the struggling thrift said it could not account for the activity. The stock jumped $1.50 a share, to $11, on volume of 298,200 shares in over-the-counter trading. Glendale-based Citadel Holding has been mulling a takeover bid for Valley but Valley said it had no announcements about Citadel or any other potential suitor. Citadel also said it was not buying Valley shares.
