Bicyclist Fires at Sheriff’s Patrol Car
A bicyclist stopped on a Willowbrook street corner early Friday and fired two shots at a passing sheriff’s patrol car, but neither of the two deputies inside was hit, authorities said.
The incident was the third shooting in a week in which sheriff’s deputies appeared to be targets of gunmen.
In the latest attack, one of the deputies returned fire as the bicyclist pedaled off down Success Avenue near Imperial Highway about 1 a.m., Deputy Van Mosley said.
Deputies Jerold Reeves and Jason Mann were riding in their marked patrol car when a man in his 20s sitting on a bike fired two rounds from a small handgun, Mosley said.
As the bicyclist sped off, Reeves fired one round. No one was injured in the exchange.
The deputies followed the gunman into the nearby Nickerson Gardens housing complex, where he managed to elude them.
