Dominguez Hills Gains in Golf Meet
Rounds of 75 and 77 by junior Ray Fawcett helped improve the standing of Cal State Dominguez Hills in the 72-hole NCAA Division II Golf Championships at Lake View Country Club in Erie, Pa.
Fawcett’s play, along with a third-round 73 by Enrico Montano, lifted the Toros to 12th place. Coach John Johnson’s golfers were in 15th place after Wednesday’s opening round. The 17-team field was forced to play 36 holes due to a Tuesday rain out.
Columbus College of Georgia leads with a 54-hole total of 896. Dominguez’s five man team is at 942. The Western Regional’s other entrant, Cal State Northridge, is in third place at 918.
Montano, with a 54-hole total of 231, is one shot out of 15th place. He and Fawcett, who is at 233, are the Toros’ best hopes of placing in the top 15, a category that would gain All-American status in the field of 90 players.
