Brea : Second Suspect Arrested in Car Theft and Chase
A second suspect is in jail in connection with a freeway chase last week that ended with a car crash and a suspect wounded by police gunfire, authorities said Sunday.
Juan Antonio Salas, 18, of Anaheim, who was being sought in an attack on a Brea woman and the theft of her Acura Legend, is being held in Orange County Jail after turning himself in Saturday to the Sheriff’s Department, Brea police said.
Salas was booked on suspicion of armed robbery. A second Anaheim man, Jay Le, 18, is in jail and facing similar charges for the same crime. Bail for each has been set at $50,000, police said.
According to investigators, one of the two suspects confronted the woman in her Brea driveway as she arrived home Thursday. The suspect allegedly pulled the woman from her car and drove away, followed by the second suspect. The woman’s husband, who police said witnessed the incident from inside the couple’s home, followed the two suspects onto the Orange Freeway, where police joined the chase. The pursuit ended when the stolen Acura spun out of control and struck a freeway sign.
Police said they shot Le in the left shoulder as he tried to flee the accident scene. The second suspect escaped.
