WASHINGTON — The State Department advised American travelers Thursday to use “caution and common sense” in staying away from large demonstrations in China.
The travel advisory did not warn against visits to China and noted that there has been no sign of anti-foreigner elements in the pro-democracy demonstrations attracting huge crowds in Beijing, Shanghai and many other cities. But it suggested that there could be danger from crowding or reaction to the protests, adding, “Travelers should use caution and common sense.”
