A 6-year-old Cudahy boy was doused with gasoline and set on fire outside a residential motel Monday, allegedly by a teen-age boy police said they later booked for attempted murder.
The boy was in serious condition with first- and second-degree burns to his face and neck, officials at County-USC Medical Center said. Doctors also were trying to determine whether the child had inhaled gasoline.
The boy was set ablaze about 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the Atlantis Motel, which provides housing for low-income families, Bell-Cudahy police said. It is located at 7630 Atlantis Ave.
Police had no motive for the attack.
“He must have done it for a reason,” Police Sgt. Mike Tevis said of the 14-year-old suspect, adding that investigators had yet to finish interviewing witnesses late Monday night.
The boys’ names were not released because of their ages.
