LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Three days after the running of the 115th Kentucky Derby, the president of Churchill Downs today checked into a 28-day treatment program for alcohol abuse, the track announced.
Thomas H. Meeker was expected to return to his post immediately upon completing the program, said Warner L. Jones Jr., chairman of the board of Churchill Downs.
Karl Schmidt, a spokesman for the track, issued a tersely written three paragraph statement saying that Meeker had entered the program. Schmidt said he could not reveal which treatment program Meeker had checked into or provide any additional comment.
