OCEANSIDE — A mild earthquake below the ocean floor shook a wide stretch of San Diego County today, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The temblor registered 3.4 on the Richter scale, struck at 7:11 a.m. and was centered beneath the seabed 27 miles southwest of Oceanside, said Amy Branch, a seismologist at Caltech in Pasadena. Scientists believe that the temblor was an aftershock of a 5.3-magnitude quake that struck July 13, 1986, Branch said.
