WASHINGTON — President Bush will visit Hungary and Poland in July, symbolizing U.S. support for economic and political reform in the two East Bloc countries, the White House announced today.
Press Secretary Marlin Fitzwater said Bush will visit the two countries en route to Paris for a seven-nation economic summit beginning July 14.
Fitzwater said that he did not know details of the trip but that the stops in Poland and Hungary will be spread over two days. The plan jelled Thursday night after exchanges with Polish authorities, who suggested that the White House consider having Bush visit their country after the summit meeting.
