2 Charged With Assault in Drag-Race Incident
AU.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service officer and another man, who were accused of holding guns on a group of people gathered in Chatsworth for an illegal drag-race, were charged Wednesday with assault with a deadly weapon.
Sixteen felony counts apiece were brought in San Fernando Municipal Court against Aaron Wilson, 26, an INS special agent, and Anthony Sabino, 26, a real estate salesman, both of Chatsworth, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Norman F. Montrose.
Police said the two appeared to be drunk when they were arrested about 2:30 a.m. Friday in the parking lot of a Carl’s Jr. at Lassen Street and De Soto Avenue. They were released on $12,000 bail each.
Police said a large group of people had gathered at Canoga Avenue and Lassen Street for a drag-race when the two men pulled up and pointed guns at the crowd. The men identified themselves as police officers but did not show any identification.
After searching several members of the group at gunpoint, the men got back in their car and followed some of them to the parking lot. The pair again drew their guns and began conducting another search when passing police officers arrested them.
A hearing is scheduled May 4 in San Fernando Municipal Court.
