Taiwan’s first athletic delegation to China in four decades arrived in Beijing to attend the Asian Junior Gymnastics Championships. The 15 athletes, accompanied by 12 coaches and officials, will compete for three days starting Friday, according to Chan Te-chi of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee. The visit marks the first time that Taiwan will be represented at a mainland sports event since 1949, when the Nationalists retreated from mainland China after defeat by the Communists.
