College Roundup : Cal Lutheran Notches Sweep in Softball
Cal Lutheran, buoyed by complete-game pitching efforts from Leslie Stevens and DeAndra Pilkington, swept Cal Baptist, 3-0, 6-1, Saturday in a Golden State Athletic Conference softball doubleheader at Cal Lutheran. The victories gave Cal Lutheran (21-12 overall, 7-1 in conference play) a five-game winning streak.
Katie Kjonegaard’s two-run double and Kim White’s two-run triple paced a four-run rally in the sixth inning of the second game.
Kjonegaard had three hits and three runs batted in in the second game and White added two hits in the opener in support of Stevens, who struck out two.
Stevens was two for three and drove in Kjonegaard twice in the first game. Pilkington had three strikeouts to improve to 10-2.
In another softball game:
College of the Canyons 3, USC 1--Michelle Ruffner (17-12) pitched a three-hitter and struck out six as host Canyons (17-13) won a nonconference game. Tressie Millender tripled for Canyons and Angie Gorski had an RBI single.
BASEBALL
L.A. Valley 8, Santa Barbara 5--Tim DeGrasse (7-0) struck out seven in seven innings as Valley (22-6-1, 8-4) remained one game behind Ventura (9-3) in the Western State Conference.
Valley’s Mike Caputi went four for five with two doubles.
Biola 14, The Master’s 9--Darren Beck, Mark MacArthur and Russ Henzie had two hits each for host Master’s (13-22-1). Beck hit a home run and had three RBIs.
Cal Poly Pomona (JV) 6, Mission 5--Right-hander Chris Romo of Mission (7-17) left with a 5-2 lead in the sixth, but relievers allowed two runs in both the eighth and ninth innings of a nonconference game at Cal Poly Pomona.
