Avery International Corp.: First-quarter net income rose 17% to $20.3 million on sales of $414 million, up 11% from a year ago. The Pasadena-based maker of self-adhesive labels, tapes and office products said the results reflected solid gains in its specialty tape and graphic systems businesses in the United States, the specialty materials and automotive units in Europe, and its U.S. and Canadian roll materials businesses.
