Local News in Brief : Dana Point : 22 Citizens Appointed to City Organizations

Twenty-two Dana Point and Monarch Beach residents have been appointed by the new Dana Point City Council to serve on three of the city’s commissions and one committee.

After weeks of interviews, the council announced Tuesday night the community members who will serve on the city’s first Planning, Traffic and Cultural commissions and the Economic Development Committee.

Some of the appointees had lived in the city for more than 20 years and one for just 24 hours at the time of the interviews, Mayor Judy Curreri said. No residents of Capistrano Beach, which is also part of the new city of Dana Point, were chosen for any of the groups.

Those selected for the Planning Commission are Lynn Dawson of Monarch Bay and Harold Kaufman, Carlos Olvera, Mark Sloate and Wendall Thompson, all of Dana Point.

Those selected for the Traffic Commission are Forrest Owen of Monarch Beach and Robert Anderson, John Bates, Richard Burrhus and Dennis Vlach, all of Dana Point.

Those selected for the Cultural Commission are Peggy Bucci of Monarch Beach and Matt Ehrhart, Harry Helling, Wendy Lockwood-Larson and Margie Shackelford, all of Dana Point.

Those selected for the Economic Development Committee are Edward Hope, Dennis Lievely, Robert Norton and James Smith of Monarch Beach, and Edward Conway, Toni Gallagher and Fred Jenner of Dana Point.

The committee will be in effect for at least a year. The three commissions are permanent and the commissioners will serve staggered terms, which will be decided upon later. Planning commissioners will be sworn in on March 21; members of the other groups will serve without being sworn in.
