Cable Consortium Formed: US West International reported that it has a 25% stake in a consortium that submitted a bid for what it said would be the world’s biggest cable television franchise in Hong Kong. The franchise winner would be entitled to build a cable system that would serve 1.5 million to 2 million homes, more homes than in any other cable franchise territory, US West said. US West International, which is a unit of the former Bell System company US West, already has interests in cable television systems in France and Great Britain. The Hong Kong government is expected to announce the successful bidder in August.
