San Diego
San Diego police said Monday that they have located a man wanted for questioning in the brutal beating of a 13-year-old Hillcrest girl last month.
Walter Leon Brown, 27, was arrested Thursday in Long Beach and is being held there on suspicion of burglary and auto theft, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Brown, whom the girl’s family befriended, had been sought for questioning in the beating of Marcie Bradburn, Robinson said.
The girl was found Jan. 27, unconscious near the site of the abandoned Sears store at Cleveland and University avenues. She suffered severe head and back injuries.
Police said Brown was a guest in the family’s apartment in the 1400 block of Morrow Way, less than two blocks from where the girl was found, Robinson said.
The girl has been undergoing therapy at Vista Hill Hospital, he said.
Brown, who is on parole from Chino State Prison for a burglary conviction, will also face a charge of violating his parole, Robinson said.
San Diego Police Detective Bruce Kertson interviewed Brown and is forwarding the case to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office, police said.
