Women’s Roundup : VanEmbricqs Leads UCLA; USC Loses
Sandra VanEmbricqs had 23 points and 11 rebounds for the UCLA women, who pulled away in the second half to beat Washington State, 91-72, in a Pacific 10 basketball game Thursday night at Pauley Pavilion.
The Bruins led, 38-37, at halftime, then outscored the Cougars, 11-1, in a three-minute stretch of the second half to go ahead, 64-53.
Freshman Molly Tideback added 21 points for the Bruins (11-12 overall and 7-6 in the Pac-10).
Jonni Gray scored 20 points for the Cougars (12-12, 5-9).
Washington 75, USC 67--Center Amy Mickelson scored 23 points to lead the Huskies over the Trojans in a Pac-10 game at the Sports Arena.
The Trojans (9-14, 5-8) led, 17-13, in the first half, but the Huskies (18-9, 11-3) scored four straight baskets, two by Mickelson, and never trailed after that.
Karon Howell led USC with 18 points, and Cherie Nelson had 17.
CS Long Beach 96, Pacific 71--The 49ers won their 16th straight game as senior guard Penny Toler scored 25 points in a Big West game at Long Beach to push her career total to 2,012, third highest on Long Beach’s all-time list.
The 49ers (23-4, 16-0) also got 14 points and 11 assists from Traci Waites
