The formation of a Division II football conference composed of 11 schools from Michigan, Indiana and Ohio was completed today. They will begin play in 1990.

The conference, to be known as the Midwest Intercollegiate Football Conference, represents a merger between the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, composed entirely of Michigan schools, and the Heartland Collegiate Conference.

The Michigan schools are: Ferris State, Grand Valley State, Northern Michigan, Saginaw Valley State, Wayne State and Hillsdale. The five HCC schools are: Ashland, Ohio, plus Butler, Indianapolis, St. Joseph’s and Valparaiso, all in Indiana.
